France Opens Diesel Reserves: TotalEnergies and E. Leclerc Slash Fuel Prices Sharply

economy

France has released ten million barrels of diesel from its strategic reserves. The volumes, sold at 0.28 euros per liter instead of around 1.10 euros, are driving noticeable price cuts at the pumps: TotalEnergies lowered the cap at its Access stations to 2.15 euros per liter, while E. Leclerc and Coopérative U announced a discount of 21 cents per liter. The average diesel price recently stood at around 2.37 euros. The backdrop is a strained supply situation with shortages at roughly every seventh station, caused by low Rhine water levels and heavy demand.
